The Connection Between Dental Health and Cancer Screening
Posted on 2/22/2021 by Northstar Dental
Oral cancer screening is conducted by our professionals for two reasons. The first is to look for and rule out any potential causes of cancer and the other is to investigate if there are any unusual formations in the mouth. Our motive is to detect cancer early, so the chances of you getting cured are higher.
Bad Oral Habits
The people most at risk will be those that consume/use tobacco in any form, those that consume alcohol, those with a history of oral cancer, and those with a history of any kind of cancer in their family. Our professionals will check your history and your dental health before beginning your oral cancer screening.
Dental Health and Cancer Screening
Generally referred to as oral cavity cancer, it can affect any part of the mouth, tongue, lips, palate, the floor of the mouth, the roof of the mouth, and the inside of the cheeks. Through our initial screening, we examine the entire oral cavity for any lesions or formation. Any sign is examined and further assessed for signs of cancer. A sign as small as a change in voice is taken seriously and we check for a potential tumor in the pharyngeal region. Our thorough dental oral examination covers the basic screening for oral cancer.
If anything unusual is picked up during this basic examination, we will suggest a further course of treatment which begins with a biopsy. A biopsy involves taking a small portion of the skin tissue of the suspect area and sending it for a test. You will need to revisit us within a couple of weeks to check for the results. The best way for you to rule out cancer from your life is to call our office for a consultation and we will take all the necessary steps.
