How Switching the Flavor of Your Toothpaste Could Help with Your Oral Health
Posted on 8/24/2020 by Northstar Dental
Brushing teeth is a vital part of your daily oral care routine, therefore the toothpaste you use can be important to keeping it up. Like everything else, there is always an opportunity to try something new. It's always a good idea to switch things up every now and then, just like moving around furniture or refreshing paint work around the house.
A Break in Routine
When we make simple changes in our mundane routines, it engages our attention far more effectively. Whether you're a child or adult, keeping the same routine day in, day out, can be difficult. Not everyone finds keeping a strict regime easy.
When we are establishing a basic oral care routine at home, we must ensure that we are brushing our teeth for two minutes, twice a day. This is fundamental for keeping teeth strong and gums healthy. Adding regular use of mouthwash and dental floss should also be part of your daily oral care.
Taste of Toothpaste
Toothpaste products contain flavorings and coloring agents and not everyone is a fan of all of them. The typical flavor is mint, however young children are often not a big fan of this and can often reject it as 'hot' or 'spicy'.
As we grow older, most of us get used to the mint flavor of toothpaste, but even so, it's beneficial for our oral health to keep things interesting. When we make changes in our routine, our attention is grabbed and we can find it easier to maintain. It's always worth trying some alternative flavors such as very mild mint, fruit, bacon, pie, or bubble gum. If you have been struggling to keep up with your oral care routine at home, schedule a dental check with us to check your oral health.
