|Brushing your teeth every day is one of the keys to good oral health. While it is important to brush, it is also important to get the most you can every time you brush. The best way to do that is to learn proper brushing techniques. Part of that education is learning the common mistakes that people make. Once you know what they are, you can learn the techniques to avoid those mistakes.
Many people make a mistake in their choice of toothbrush or the way they treat their toothbrush. A good brush will have soft bristles. You will also reach all the areas of the mouth with the brush. In addition to choosing the right brush, you need to care for it. This means keeping it clean after use, sanitizing or replacing after an illness and at least occasionally soaking it in antibacterial mouthwash. It is also a good idea to replace the toothbrush at least every 6 months or when it is worn out. The other piece of equipment is toothpaste and mouthwash. Getting good products is a key to good oral health.
Other Common Brushing Mistakes
Even if you have the right equipment, there are other mistakes that you can make. Not brushing long enough or not brushing below the gum line can lead to problems. Brushing too hard can damage the gums. Many people don't realize they need to brush their tongue along with their teeth and gums.
People also struggle with technique.
They brush from side to side instead of up and down. You hold the brush straight on the teeth instead of at a 45-degree angle. Some may only brush their teeth once a day instead of twice. And many people forget flossing is a part of their oral health routine.
The good thing about these common mistakes is they are easy to fix. All they require is changing a few habits to get the most out of your oral health routine.
