Which Is Better, Partial Dentures or Bridges?

Posted on 6/15/2024 by Northstar Dental
lab molds of full and partial dentures Nearly all adults lose at least one tooth during their adulthood. Usually, adults lose their wisdom teeth due to overcrowding or an impacted tooth that is causing trouble. If you have lost multiple teeth, however, it can not only cause cosmetic issues but also cause your teeth to shift to manage the space where you have missing teeth. Both partial dentures and bridges can cover your missing teeth, and there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

About Partial Dentures

Partial dentures can be used when some of your teeth are missing in either your upper or lower jaw. Dentures are usually made of porcelain teeth on a base of acrylic or plastic, so they are tough and durable. Depending on your needs, you can affix your dentures to your gums through suction or with a dental adhesive. Dentures allow you to eat tougher foods and smile without worrying about the gaps from your missing teeth.

While dentures are an excellent answer for missing teeth, they are not for everyone. Some people feel uncomfortable with their partial dentures because of how they fit. Also, dentures may not attach correctly, which means they have a tendency to slip.

About Bridges

Bridges differ from dentures in several ways. Bridges are usually made from the same materials as dentures. However, bridges can replace two or more teeth that are located side by side. Bridges can be either permanent or removable. Permanent bridges are cemented into your mouth in between two implanted teeth or natural teeth. Removable teeth usually connect to your teeth with a hook so you can remove them at night. There are different types of bridges that our dentist can use in your mouth, depending on where your missing teeth are located.
